Sonidos Serranos

Sonidos Serranos: Sounds of the Sierras...
Reflecting some of my family's interests: God's wonderful creation (especially mountains and hills!), music, and language...

Psalm 121:1-2 (NASB)

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.

Small Steps. Big Journey.

One of my goals for 2014 has become exercise: Exercise on purpose this year more than I did last year, that is. I’m thankful for the motivation, accountability, and encouragement I’ve found by joining a small group on fb, started by a very inspiring friend.

And maybe this long-neglected blog can play a part in accountability, too!

Yesterday’s (maybe not-so-small) step: My little family walked almost 6K – in increments of 1.2K, 2.3K and then 2.3K again. It’s one of the benefits of depending on public transportation and then deciding not to pay the basic fare for only a couple of kilometers!

I’m proud of my almost-8-year-old E who cheerfully did her part – and thankful for my DH who carried our Little Man on his shoulders for all but about 0.1K!

God’s Eternality and Man’s Ephemerality

As we begin a New Year, I’m meditating on truths highlighted in JM’s sermon tonight...

A Prayer of Moses, the man of God:

Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were born
Or You gave birth to the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

You turn man back into dust
And say, “Return, O children of men.”
For a thousand years in Your sight
Are like yesterday when it passes by,
Or as a watch in the night.
You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep;
In the morning they are like grass which sprouts anew.
In the morning it flourishes and sprouts anew;
Toward evening it fades and withers away...

As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years,
Or if due to strength, eighty years,
Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow;
For soon it is gone and we fly away.
Who understands the power of Your anger
And Your fury, according to the fear that is due You?
So teach us to number our days,
That we may present to You a heart of wisdom...

Let Your work appear to Your servants
And Your majesty to their children.
Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us;
And confirm for us the work of our hands;
Yes, confirm the work of our hands.

~Psalm 90

Pray for us! (January Ministry Report)

We are grateful for the many ways you have encouraged us and participated in the work in Uruguay over the past year, in addition to the ways in which you serve the Lord where He has placed you. All of us will undoubtedly need much of God’s grace for the days ahead. We are highlighting some opportunities here in Uruguay in the upcoming months – work in which you can participate through your prayers...

He will yet deliver us, you also joining in helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the favor bestowed on us through the prayers of many.
(II Corinthians 1)
