Sonidos Serranos

Sonidos Serranos: Sounds of the Sierras...
Reflecting some of my family's interests: God's wonderful creation (especially mountains and hills!), music, and language...

Psalm 121:1-2 (NASB)

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.

Campamento “DAVyD”

We returned late last night from three days of camp. This was Year 3 of what came to be known as Campamento “DAVyD” (in 2016). We’re thankful especially for the bridge-building opportunities represented by these mini camps.

Things were more informal than usual this year, and the kids came up with some good ideas!

We compiled and buried a Time Capsule – in pouring rain, which began right as JM started digging and stopped right after we were done and inside again! 😜

Fun stuff!

The kids wrote a script, and we filmed a short clip down at the beach.

Showing their finished production to our visitors!

We had lots of fun!

We endeavor to encourage these “Kid Missionaries” regarding each family’s calling. We spend time building on Truth studied during earlier camps. And we always enjoy the beauty of God’s amazing creation!

We love our beautiful camp!

Getting a picture of the humming bird was a highlight!

We also saw a woodpecker on one of our nature hikes!

The sunset the first evening was spectacular!

We’re thankful!

Feeling loved!

With love from my Main People!

I didn’t bother to take a picture of the generous portion of Ricotta Cake they also got me! (But I did share it!) 😉

(Mostly) Butterfly Party!

We celebrated E’s birthday with a few friends from camp and a simple (mostly) butterfly theme. (Her idea and one of her current loves!)

E designed her own cake, and we adapted ideas (from “Tía Tini”) for the butterfly cupcakes! (Thanks, K!)

¡Feliz Cumpleaños!

We had fun developing the details and seeing them come together, and we enjoyed quality mommy-daughter time as we planned and then shopped for items to pull the theme off. I love these spontaneous opportunities to get to know the young lady my little girl is becoming...

While looking for long balloons (at our equivalent of a “dollar store” just a few blocks from home), we stumbled across some fun props!

Highlights also included a candy hunt and a butterfly craft.

Seeing E and her friends (and DJ) get so excited about the candy hunt – a favorite from my own childhood and my own Mommy’s birthday celebrations – was an extra special blessing for me. (I miss her so much!)

The girls also enjoyed completing a study on horses (another of E’s loves), translated from Topical Bible for Kids. (Thank you, Michelle!)

We picnicked in the backyard!

One of many laughs that day included the following anecdote:

Me: (grating carrots and beets to accompany the chorizos sizzling on the backyard grill)

Little Voice (behind me): “Salad is not a birthday party food. We need something like potato chips!”

(But we weren’t celebrating his birthday this time!) 😉

I love life with my Little People! 💕

“Little Moments!”

Sometimes the little “everyday” moments become the ones that most stand out in family life!

Homemade Bread!

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls!

Homemade Chocolate Sauce!

Extra Special “Sunday Coke” – on the bus!

We’re bettering the budget and making up for lost time over here... 😉
