Sonidos Serranos

Sonidos Serranos: Sounds of the Sierras...
Reflecting some of my family's interests: God's wonderful creation (especially mountains and hills!), music, and language...

Psalm 121:1-2 (NASB)

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.

April 21: Jona's Obituary

Jonatán David Torres, born August 10, 1994, went into the presence of the Lord at 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.

Jona was a sophomore at Bob Jones Academy, where he served as a class officer.

He was a member of Iglesia Bautista Calvario de Greer and taught the junior church children. He fully enjoyed life and especially excelled in sports, singing, and playing the guitar.

On his fifteenth birthday he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma cancer, which God used to demonstrate to thousands of others around the world how much Jona enjoyed the eternal life that the Lord had given him through the gospel of grace. He was a man of prayer and a warrior of the faith.

He will be greatly missed by his parents, Esteban and Esther Torres; his brother, Marcos David Torres; his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and friends too numerous to mention in the U.S., Uruguay, Canada, and around the world.

Visitation will be open to the public at Bob Jones Academy on Saturday, April 23, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and at Morningside Baptist Church on Monday, April 25, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Morningside Baptist Church on Monday, April 25, at 5:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Jona's memory to "Bob Jones University, Torres Memorial Fund." (These donations will then be designated for Bob Jones Academy.)

Selifshly grateful that the viewing/funeral are after the weekend. I was really wanting to attend, but I don't get back in town until Saturday night.
So grateful for God's work of grace evidenced in Jona's life and praying that the impact continues in his peers hearts for many years to come.
Praying especially for younger bro, Marco.
Love and prayers,
Donna

"...the righteous will shine forth as the SUN in the kingdom of their Father." Matt 13:37

It's not the years in your life, but the life in your years that count...Jona did more for the cause of Christ in his sweet 16 years than many do in a lifetime. Heaven is a sweeter place today. Prayers for all the family as you are embraced by God's everlasting love.

We love you Estaban, Esther and Marcos, and we also love Jonatan.
We know he is happy in heaven today but we also know that you are going to greatly miss his smiling face and sweet Christian spirit. We are praying much for you. The Garrett family

"Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
"And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also." (II Tim. 2:1-2)
May I be strong in the LORD to faithfully teach others as I have been taught by Christ through Jona, his family and his LORD!

Samuel wished we could have attended, and so did I.
